The directors, Michele de la Reza (originally from Houston, TX) and Peter Kope (originally from Cleveland, OH), have trained in a variety of styles and traditions which has helped feed the aesthetic diversity of their projects. de la Reza graduated from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York and Kope completed his early training at the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company where he became a company member and toured throughout the US and the world. Both directors share a love of passionate dancing fused with theatrical flavor. In 2000, Attack Theatre was joined by the acclaimed cellist and composer Dave Eggar as music director. "Dance innovators whose penchant for multimedia collaboration produces wickedly entertaining stage productions."
Pittsburgh City Paper
Attack Theatre took its name from a philosophy that believes art can be brought to the audience. Street corners, cathedrals, backyards, storefront windows and bridges became the company's stage. The company is respected for its willingness to go to the audience and "attack" each performance with a remarkable intensity. At times witty and poignant, and at times tragic and introspective, Attack Theatre's performances are always engaging.
In its fifteen years of operations, Attack Theatre has made a significant impact on audiences through performance, on community revitalization through neighborhood/studio initiatives, and on students and teachers through extensive arts education programs. Attack Theatre has presented over 100 original works in theatrical and site-specific settings to more than 300,000 audiences members of all ages.
